Which patio doors to buy

Due to the fact that patio doors have a decisive impact on the appearance of the house, they must also match the overall picture and, above all, the windows. Sliding doors are particularly recommended for entrances to the garden or terrace that are not connected to the building’s window system. Sliding doors with an elegant and timeless design impress with their large panes with plenty of sunlight and daylight in the rooms. Various profile systems are available in the materials plastic, wood, aluminum and the combination of plastic-aluminium and wood-aluminium. There is also a wide range of options with regard to glazing, from thermal insulation glazing and soundproof glazing to ornamental or structured glass. The purchase price often plays a major role here. The situation changes especially with balcony door and window combinations. In this case, balcony doors are usually chosen, which correspond completely to the window picture both in structure and in glazing. Due to the great similarity, these are often also called French doors or balcony windows. Similar to windows, the balcony doors can be manufactured in addition to the usual rectangular door shape in round, segmental or segmental arches as well as 1-leaf to 4-leaf elements. The turn or turn-tilt function is available as the opening direction for the door. In relation to the architectural style of the house, the patio door can be both in shape, type, color or glazing.

Explanation of patio door variants

Tilt&Turn patio door
The classic tilt and turn balcony door is particularly popular among the balcony door opening types. The 180 degree position of the door handle initiates the tilting process; in the 90 degree position, the door can be opened completely. The fitting can be mounted on the right or left, as required. In this way, the space in each room can be optimally used. A 2-leaf turn-tilt balcony door can be ordered with post or forend. The special feature of a balcony door with a mullion is the use of a frame without a post. When both sashes are opened, the entire width of the balcony door can be used without the middle post getting in the way.
Parallel tilt and slide patio door (PSK)
Large glass surfaces are part of modern house construction. The parallel tilt and slide patio door offers energy efficiency at a high level, lets in plenty of daylight and offers unique panoramic views. A classic parallel slide and tilt patio door consists of a fixed part and a movable wing. The PSK door is inexpensive, but not optimal in terms of ease of use. Opening takes place in two steps: First, the turning handle is actuated, causing the sash to tilt. Second, pull the handle on one until the entire wing is level on the two rails. With slight pressure, it can now be pushed sideways over the fixed element. The door is particularly space-saving.
Lift and slide patio door (HS)
Lift and slide patio doors are often used in large wall openings. A guide rail, a threshold and a special gear inside the door handle enable the large and heavy elements to be operated comfortably. To open a lift and slide door, the handle is rotated to the appropriate position, causing the sash to lift slightly and come out of its closed and sealed position. This moves to the side on a threshold and thus gives the impression of floating. When closing, the door is lowered again and thus tight and safe again.
Folding sliding door (FS)
Folding sliding doors are ideal for large openings such as in conservatories, on terraces or in cafés and restaurants. The individual glass elements are set in their own frames and fastened with hinges. In this way, huge areas can be covered in a stable manner. In combination with an innovative rail system, the door segments are pushed together easily and to save space according to the accordion principle. If a door is used more often, but the folding system is not to be opened, a combination with a rotating leaf can also be implemented.
Securing windows made easy

Security at window

Windows and doors offer a large attack surface for burglars. Therefore, adequate burglary protection is essential to adequately protect your home. The MACO Multi MATIC KS fittings help to close the security gap in your windows. The fittings, which are equipped with safety mushroom pins, make it difficult to lever out the sash. For improved protection, there is a choice of various security levels with up to RC 2 (formerly WK2) fittings. In combination with laminated safety glass, the windows can be optimally adapted to the conditions on site. The optimised window contact pressure also results in a higher tightness, which saves valuable energy and creates a pleasant indoor climate.

Proper glazing is an essential part of optimal thermal insulation. Thanks to a special Thermofloat, our state-of-the-art insulating glass SGG PLANTITHERM ®XN has extremely low Ug values of 1.1 W/m²K even in 2-fold glazing. This saves you a lot of valuable energy. For improved energy efficiency, 3-fold glazing and the so-called “warm edge” are also available. This plastic spacer has reduced thermal conductivity in contrast to the conventional aluminum edge. Individual wishes are fulfilled by an extensive selection of ornamental and textured glass as well as matching safety glass – for all-round carefree living in your home.
